Travelling with Palabres is...

  • Taking the time to live in the rhythm of a traditional village, enjoying the legendary hospitality of the Africans and their very communicative gaiety,
  • Respecting the local population, their culture and their environment,
  • Leaving in small groups of 2 to 15 persons for a personal and convivial reception,
  • Living at your rhythm and in function of your taste by a real listening (of your wishes) and a great flexibility of organization,
  • Engage true reflections concerning the relation North- South by putting in place a weekend of preparation before traveling and visiting the projects in the South,
  • Contribute efficiently to the amelioration of the local life: 10% of the price of the travel are destined to support the management of the health post. 39% are reserved for the village and the services done for the travelers (housing, food, activities) and new projects. A committee of “village management” distributes the resources generated in the most equitable manner, privileging the financing of collective projects.

Accommodation and food

  • The accommodation : The travelers stay in traditional housings covered by straw roofs (double room, mosquito net, living room, shower cabins and toilets inside and outside of the huts). In the village, there are in total one traditional housings with a capacity of ten persons (double rooms) and a second one designed for the reception of a family of maximal 5 members. The comfort is simple but sufficient for this type of travel. There is neither electricity nor tap water. The lighting is assured with the help of electric lamps and the water is accessible due to a tap installed in the yard. Toilets and showers are working with buckets.
  • Séjours solidaires et équitables au Sénégal - Palabres sans Frontières

  • The food : Al the necessary for the breakfast is arranged in the huts. Diner is prepared and served by the association of women in the huts (rather occidental plates). For the lunch, each traveler is invited to share the meal with a family during all the journey: traditional meals (fish, rice, mangoes etc.) and tea ritual. The traveler also has the possibility to participate at all-day activities of his host-family: kitchen aid, agricultural tasks, etc.

  • Water : Big water bottles are at your disposal in the hut for the first days. Water is to renew on your own charge (drinks not being included in the offer). You have the possibility to buy water at any trip to the city. Otherwise, prepare taking water puring tablets for the water of the village.

The welcoming and the security

  • The welcoming : we assure you a personal reception at your arrival on Senegalese soil where a driver is waiting for you. The welcoming committee of the village takes over your reception at the arrival at Keur Samba Yacine. The only thing you'll have to do is putting down your luggage and letting you be carried away by the every day life of the villagers happy to make you discover their activities and traditions.

  • The security : to assure your security, you are accompanied by the village's youth organization (ASC DIAMONO) for each of your exits outside of the village itself. A guard sleeps inside of the huts every night.

The weekend of preparation for departure

The travelers will be invited to participate at a week-end of information, meeting and preparation for departure (presentation of the trip, of the village, of the plan of fair tourism, role plays, picture language, advice and answers to your questions before departure etc.). This preparation weekend takes place in a B and B at Ariège and costs 85€.

Your participation is not obligatory but strongly recommended.
