Séjours solidaires et équitables au Sénégal - Palabres sans Frontières

At a time where it becomes easier to organize his trip and where standardized hotels which spoil landscapes, are continuously built, it is important to wonder about the impact of our holidays on the local territory and population.

The idea of a responsible tourism is borned little by little to fight against negative impacts of tourism (destruction of landscapes, deterioration in the standard of living, zero profit and none consideration of local populations' opinions, …). This means that a traveller could combine the discover of a country and the contribution to sustainable development of the country in question.

Extract of the Charter for sustainable tourism of the Palabres sans Frontières association:

quote_ouvranteThe Man and the encounter are the center of a solidarity, responsible and fair trip which is based on this following plan of action :

  • local population's particpation in different stages of the tourism project,
  • the respect of persons, cultures and nature
  • a fair distribution of the resources producted

"It's uncomfortable"

Admittedly, solidarity and equitable tourism don't amount to a prestige tourism, but don't confuse. All the conditions are united to make the travellers feel good during the stay.

Inside the Keur Samba Yacine village, travellers are housed in thatch roof huts specially made for them. Comfort is simple but sufficient in this special kind of stay. Travallers' intimacy is protected since huts only offer double rooms. A hut is reserved for families (couple with 2 or 3 children). This « family » hut is made up of a living room, two bedrooms (one double bed, and two or even three simple beds) with a bathroom in each (shower and WC with buckets). Every beds are equiped with mosquito nets. There is neither electricity nor running water in the huts. However, a tap in the courtyard can be used by the travellers every time they need water (laundry, shower with a bucket,...). Altogether, there are 4 shower cubicles and 5 toilets.

"It's expensive"

It all depends on what is included or not in your trip. The journey lasts generally 15 days with full board, with excursions and various activities in the village and surrounding area. Moreover, when you decide to buy a solidarity and fair trip, you support sustenable development projetcs of the destination in question. Indeed, by travelling with the Palabres sans Frontières association, you already know that on journey's price, 49% are directly transfered to the village and invested in collective interest projects (health post's functioning, reforestation, schools renovation, …).

"It's not for me"

Our trip is almost for all ages. We recommend to parents to travel with children from the age of 5. It is a group or individual trip for families with children, retired people, young people...

Our journey meets a great majority of travellers' expectations since it offers a good way to discover a country in being close to local people while feeling safe. It is a good compromise for those who do not want to stay in a hotel club but who do not feel comfortable in travelling own their own.

Proof of stringency

The whole project (touristic activity and development plans) is developed and managed in close partnership with local communities and their representatives since 2003. The Palabres sans Frontières association receives support from among others: Midi Pyrénées region, the Haute Garonne area local council, the Minestry of Youth, Sports and Communauty Services, the tour operators Verdié Voyage and Traveldif, etc.

Proof of security

We assure to our travellers an individualized reception as soon as they arrive on the Senegalese soil where a chauffeur is waiting for you. The welcoming committee takes overs as soon as the group arrives at Keur Samba Yacine. Travellers are always accompagned by several villagers for all the outings planed outside of the village. A security man sleeps in the guest huts every night. Travellers only have to put down their lugage and get carried away by the everyday life of the villagers who will be glad to share their activities ands their traditions.

Proof of openness

The association commits to give a realistic description of the services' content as well as a consciousness raising for the solidarity and fair tourism. Customer satisfaction survey is made after each trip with a return of the assessment.

Proof of equity

Palabres sans Frontières is commited to make your journey beneficial to local people. Out of the total of your stay, 39% are assigned to the village for the services (housing, food, activities) and 10% destined for supporting the health post management (purchase of medicine, the midwife's salary). A village's management committee splits ressources in a fair way, by favorising the financing of collective interest projects.
